What went wrong for the children in our Western countries?

When we deprived them of spirituality, authority
respect, moral, limits, parent’s time and so on.
Did they become happier from the new lifestyle which we delivered them?

No... so many young people in the Western countries are using anti depressive medicine and the suicides are increasing, to say nothing of alcohol abuse in early teen ages and drug abuse. It’s really too sad.

We are not poor but in the eyes of the children I can see a “poverty “ I didn’t even see in the look of the children in India living in orphanages. Their eyes were full of hope and trust something that has been lost in many eyes of the western children. Still their stomachs are more than filled up and they are surrounded by ”things” whose volume is close to drown them.

But are they happy ?

No ..for very many of them , I don’t think so..

So what went wrong in our modern and wealthy nations?
That is a question for the world to solve.
What price, had the so called devolved countries to pay for the their welfare and who paid it?.
I think it was the Children.

They were deprived of parent’s time, Those who were picked out to see, confirm and love them. But they havn’t ´time enough since they are too busy to fulfil themselves, in a modern western style .

Yes it’s much more to say and there are of course many more explanations of why it went wrong. But it’s all for now.
I now want to listen to you, specially those who are representatives
for the rest of the world. I want so much to hear your opinions and your analyzes.

What did we do wrong?

  1. Very well said! We have given our children "everything"; we fill up their calendar with "fulfilling activities like soccer, baseball, and the like. Ever moment of their day is spent in "meaningful activity"...meaningful? What happened to making mudpies in the backyard? Playing hide-in-seek with friends while discovering new insects and other interesting items? What happened to imaginative play? I watch my little grandson now age 14 months. He is surrounded by every type of toy imaginable. What does he choose to play with? The large empty diaper box. It's his "vroom vroom" car...his truck...his train. It's his first choice of "toys". Poor children in our world like Haiti, Africa, India...and so many more...have nothing...or do they? Despite their low state, they manage to smile and sing with joy when strangers approach them! I wish there was a way to stop this mad carousel we have put our children on! How? It starts with each of us...with me. Children need to see through the "eyes of the old"...those who remember what it was like to play as a child. To learn as a child. To enjoy life as a child. I know we all remember what it was like...before it's too late! As the "Native American Elders" remind us...we have forgotten how to live.
